The design references the 4th Flotilla of the Volksmarine, a key naval formation within the maritime forces of the GDR. As part of the National People’s Army (NVA), the Volksmarine was tasked with protecting East Germany’s Baltic coastline and operating alongside Warsaw Pact allies. The 4th Flotilla, stationed in Warnemünde, consisted of various naval units including submarine hunters, mine sweepers, and support vessels. The motif features the GDR state emblem and national colors as part of its historical layout.
